The Day Reporting Center (DRC) Work Experience program is funded by the California Wellness Foundation and provides subsidized employment to probationers. The program assists probationers who have completed the trainings at the DRC. Probationers who have not completed the training at the DRC (located in Los Angeles) are not eligible for this program. The DRC is a collaborative program of the County of Los Angeles Probation Department, Department of Mental Health, Department of Social Services, and others, and located in South Los Angeles.
Employers receive a subsidy that covers the full cost of employing DRC clients. Employment is usually part-time and lasts for six months. In the DRC Work Experience program, probationers continue to build on the work ethics training received at the DRC, as well as communication skills and other skills necessary for transition into career-track employment. Once subsidized employment is complete, full time permanent employment is made available to DRC probationers.
Eligibility
Only probationers referred by the DRC are eligible.
Process
All referred DRC clients are matched with an employer to start paid work experience. Contracts will be cut with the employer, and it is the employer who will be reimbursed for hiring a DRC client. Employment will last for about six months on a part-time basis.
During that time, The DRC continues to case manage the probationers. At the conclusion of the six month, paid work experience, both the DRC and PVJOBS assist in finding full time career track employment. Supportive services are provided as necessary.
