From Ashes to Action: LA Fire Clean-Up
May 2025
HAZWOPERProgram
UCLA-LOSH equips our students with an intensive 40-hour HAZWOPER training course, opening doors to real job opportunities in wildfire cleanup efforts across Los Angeles. Through this program, students gain essential knowledge and hands-on skills —learning everything from proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) use to safety protocols needed for hazardous work environments. This training not only prepares them for immediate employment but also empowers them to step confidently into high-demand careers that make a real impact in their communities.
UCLA Labor Occupational Safefy & Health Program
LOSH remains deeply committed to protecting the rights and safety of all workers affected by wildfires and their aftermath. Thanks to our valued partnership with UCLA, we have the opportunity to collaborate directly with LOSH, allowing our students to earn their HAZWOPER certification and gain critical training in hazardous waste operations and emergency response.
Phase 2 Fire Cleanup: Turning Training Into Action
Thanks to the overwhelming success of the program, several of our participants have earned placement in Los Angeles' wildfire cleanup efforts—an incredible milestone that reflects both their hard work and the strength of our training. These individuals not only completed rigorous coursework, including their 40-hour HAZWOPER certification, but also demonstrated the dedication, skill, and readiness needed to step into real-world, high-impact roles. Their transition from the classroom to the field marks a powerful example of what’s possible when education, opportunity, and determination come together. We couldn’t be more proud of their achievement and are excited to see the difference they’ll make in their communities through this vital recovery work.
