Juvenile Camp Welcomes Future Entrepreneurs

PVJOBS held a Future Entrepreneurs Conference Black History Month event at Afflerbaugh-Paige Camp, a juvenile detention center and school administered by the Los Angeles County Office of Education. The County has partnered with PVJOBS to develop monthly speaking events at the camp in an effort to help the youth envision brighter futures for themselves.

Successful entrepreneur and podcaster David Shands joined Happy Ice CEO Lemeir Mitchell to speak at the event and share their wisdom about what it takes to create a thriving business. Shands talked about the importance of consciously cultivating a positive outlook and engaging with others who share a similar outlook and can push them to grow. Mitchell discussed the fact that many of the same skills used in gang and criminal activity can also be applied to business enterprises – with drastically better outcomes.

Gang interventionist James “Roc” Farmer also spoke at the event to encourage the youth that they can turn their lives around to succeed in life.

Following the discussions, scoops of Happy Ice were passed out to the camp’s youth and faculty. The event was held in late February in recognition of Black History Month.
